Network Rail EV Demo Day

Dated: 11 Mar, 2024

It was a fantastic day at the Fleetmaster Driving Academy training centre as we hosted Network Rail’s Electric Vehicle Demo Day.

It’s always a pleasure to be in the company of our friends at Network Rail, as they discussed the transition of their fleet into more Alternative Fuel Vehicles, particularly Electric Vehicles.

Inside the venue there were various speakers from Network Rail, covering all the points that need to be considered when transitioning your fleet to zero emissions. This included:

  • The need to train your fleet to familiarise themselves with EVs.
  • Always take on board the feedback you are getting from those who have already transitioned to shape your future transition plan.
  • Keep up with the latest technological advances to see if any new EVs allow you to transition drivers that previously could not have realistically operated an EV for their job.
  • Analyse the data and telematics you have to see which EVs are suitable for certain job roles.
  • Keep it simple! Start the transition process with drivers who can realistically have an EV, are open to having an EV, and will not see any negative impact from having an EV.

Moving outside there were various Electric Vehicles for the Network Rail attendees to try out with the help of our Fleetmaster driver trainers. The vehicles available to test drive were the Vauxhall Vivaro-e, Vauxhall Combo-e and the Volkswagen ID.4.

There was also a charging display to show how to use the charging cables.

It was a great way for the attendees to experience the electric vehicles to further expand on the points made during the presentations – seeing first hand how easy it is to charge and drive them.

At Fleetmaster we have aided Network Rail’s EV transition through various vehicle specific eLearning courses and on-road driver training, to help the transition be as smooth and stress-free as possible for their drivers. It’s great to see how far their transition is coming along and hearing the positive feedback their fleet team are receiving from drivers swapping to Electric Vehicles.
